Evodevo refers to a field called Evolutionary developmental biology. The aim of this research is to discover how different organism adapt to same environment by means of similar developmental mechanisms and how those mechanism evolve in order to increase the fitness of the organisms as a whole. Adaption, the production of novel features, is thus seen as shaped by plasticity, robustness and context ecology.

The evolutionary approach to development has a counterpart in computer science. Evolutionary computing, as a branch of Artificial intelligence deeply inspired by biological mechanism and their inner functioning, use different techniques, such as genetic and differential search algorithm, in order to design and building large interconnected process and networks.
